Will Cyber Monday Deals Be Extended?

Cyber Monday is the biggest online shopping day in the United States, and it just keeps getting bigger. For the last few years, every Cyber Monday has set a new sales record—$9.4 billion in 2019, $7.9 billion in 2018, $6.6 billion in 2017, and so on. It’s come a long way from its creation in 2005 when it was only the 12th biggest online shopping day of the year.

What began as a relatively small National Retail Federation campaign to promote online shopping has gone on to become as big of a deal as Black Friday. While online-only retailers were the first to embrace Cyber Monday, just about every major department and big-box store’s website gets in on the action these days. Shoppers no longer have to leave the comfort of their own homes to shop holiday sales at their favorite big-name stores.

With Cyber Monday’s success, a new buzzword has emerged—Cyber Week. So does that mean you can count on Cyber Monday deals extending all week? We’ve answered that and other common questions to help you prepare for Cyber Monday.

Is Cyber Monday Only One Day?

Cyber Monday is always the Monday after Thanksgiving, but the duration of the sale varies by retailer. We expect most sales to start at midnight on Monday, though some retailers kick off their sales early. For example, Amazon has started its Cyber Monday deals on Saturday in the past. While it used to be a single-day event, it’s become common for Cyber Monday deals to extend for up to a week. Quantities can be limited, so even if the sale continues for multiple days, we recommend buying everything you want as soon as possible.

Can You Get Cyber Monday Deals In-Store?

Unlike Black Friday, which has become a dual in-store and online event, Cyber Monday has remained largely online. Thanks to buy online, pickup in-store and curbside pickup options, many retailers have begun to incorporate an in-store element, though. We love that this style of shopping combines the ease of online shopping with the instant gratification of in-store shopping since there’s no shipping time to wait on! There was a 43% increase in buy online, pickup in-store orders on Cyber Monday 2019, so we expect more retailers to offer this service during the entirety of Cyber Week this year.

Is There Free Shipping on Cyber Monday?

Many retailers pair their Cyber Monday deals with free shipping. Some require a minimum purchase or a promo code to qualify, though. For example, Kohl’s offered free shipping on orders over $25 during their extended five-day Cyber Monday sale in 2019. Before you checkout, we recommend looking at the retailer’s website for any promo codes or restrictions. If you don’t meet the minimum purchase required, you still might be able to avoid a shipping fee. Check to see if the retailer offers curbside pickup or buy online, pickup in-store. Those two options allow you to sidestep the shipping fee.

Are Cyber Monday Deals the Same as Black Friday Deals?

While many retailers offer both Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals, they often aren’t the same deals. Generally, Cyber Monday and the extended Cyber Week is an opportunity to shop sitewide sales for smaller gifts like clothing, cosmetics, and toys. Black Friday, on the other hand, is a great time to score deals on specific big-ticket gifts, including select televisions, video game consoles, and major appliances. On DealPilot, we’ll be tracking both Cyber Monday and Black Friday deals to help you score deep discounts at both sales!
